Hello, I’m Steven Hassall, design director of Frontier Labs and software product designer from Liverpool, England. I have provided strategic design services to startups and deep tech businesses for nearly a decade. From working with ARM computers on Internet of Things (IoT) applications to artificial intelligence software with a football analytics startup.
I enjoy working at the intersection of human-centred design and technology. Collaborating with customers, business and technical teams to create innovative design solutions that enhance human ability and create lasting value.
As co-founder of Frontier Labs, I have led cutting edge R&D projects with clients such as Manchester City Football Club and Weightmans LLP, as well as raising significant investment for three in-house AI-powered software products.
I have led design on tech for good projects such as the co-creation of an age-friendly shopping application, collaborating with over 300 older people; to designing augmented intelligence systems that use AI to help legal experts make smarter decisions.
I’m just as comfortable creating new brand identities for startups and businesses, as I am in designing human-centred digital products and services, employing best practices in user experience and user interface design.

Approaching any problem requires patience, attention to detail and empathy
a human centred design process
Wide exploration of the problem space with stakeholders and domain experts, challenging assumptions and identifying user needs.
Narrow exploration with insights to define brief and strategy, with clear business, user and technology objectives. Problems > Opportunities > Goals.
Explore, conceptualise and develop ideas that realise project goals.
Create the least version of something, that answers the challenge and can be tested.
Validate, learn and iterate.
